ASPCA Removes Nearly 500 Cats from Ranch

LEE, Fla. (AP) _ Authorities say nearly 465 cats have been removed from a Florida cat sanctuary.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says most of the cats have been removed from the Caboodle Ranch in Madison County by Tuesday afternoon.

But many more remain at the facility about 60 miles east of Tallahassee.

Officials with the agency told the Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/AesOY4 ) there were around 700 cats at the facility.

They say it’s the largest number of cats they’ve removed from a single location.

The cats were found outdoors in unsanitary conditions.

Many had medical problems including untreated upper respiratory and eye infections and neurological conditions.

Officials say there were several dead cats on the 30-acre property.

Sanctuary founder Craig Grant faces multiple animal cruelty charges.
