According to Hernando County police, in late December 2013, Wal-Mart Asset Protection reported that an unidentified white male and female attempted to purchase several items totaling $632.11. The male subject provided six (6) one hundred dollar notes along with two genuine twenty dollar notes to pay for the purchases. The store clerk immediately discovered that the notes were counterfeit.
The subjects took the twenty dollar notes back and left the store prior to the arrival of Law Enforcement.
Detectives from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Economic Crimes Unit were assigned to the case. Upon close examination of the counterfeit notes, detectives observed the printing to be poor and blurry. Additionally, the same serial number was utilized in two sets of the six notes.
Detectives obtained video surveillance of the transaction showing the two subjects attempting to make the purchase. During the transaction the white male is seen taking the notes from his pocket and handing them to the cashier payment for the purchase.
Photographs were extracted from the surveillance video and used to create an Alert Bulletin that was posted to both the Sheriff’s Office website and Facebook page.
As a result of the Alert Bulletin, a tip was received identifying the subjects in the photograph as Shawn Hendricks and his girlfriend.
Based upon sworn testimony, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Shawn Paul Hendricks.
On Saturday, Shawn Paul Hendricks, 40, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office on the Hernando County warrant. He was charged with uttering a forged instrument and can be released on a $2,000 bond.
