Apartment Security Guard Gets Life For Killing Resident

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A security guard at a Florida apartment complex has been sentenced to life in prison for breaking into a female resident’s unit, trying to sexually assault her and killing her.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that 35-year-old Stephen Duxbury was sentenced Tuesday after jurors found him of guilty of first-degree murder, attempted sexual battery and burglary.

Authorities say 27-year-old Sasha Samsudean returned home to Uptown Place apartments in Orlando following a night out in October 2015. She was later found dead in her bed. Her shirt and bra were ripped open, and her larynx was crushed.

Duxbury had been working that night. His thumbprint was found in Samsudean’s apartment, and his DNA was found on her chest. Duxbury’s phone records showed a Google search for how to defeat the keypad lock Samsudean had on her apartment door.
