Annual Jefferson Muzzles Awards Announced

Every year, the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression hands out their Jefferson Muzzles, the awards given to those who provocatively have attempted to muzzle free speech. While many of them are from major news events you’ll easily recall, the Center went to lengths this year to award some unique, quirky, and little known incidents as well.

Like the prosecutor who went after a teenager for posting a photo of his crotch near a religious statue. A New Jersey college suspending a professor for wearing a Game Of Thrones inspired tee shirt. An Illinois mayor who ordered a man’s house raided for creating a Twitter parody account of his honor.

ABC’s Scott Goldberg has the list of winners.

Your Wake Up Call airs every weekday from 6-9 a.m.m on AM 820 News in Tampa and 1060 News in Melbourne.
