Callers Saw Naked Man Before Face-Chewing Attack

MIAMI (AP) _ Callers to 911 reported seeing a naked man swinging from a light pole along the MacArthur Causeway minutes before a face-eating attack on a homeless man.

The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/KPaont ) reports the first 911 call came at 1:53 p.m. on May 26 from a motorist who said a “completely naked man” was “acting like Tarzan” on the causeway.

A second motorist called a minute later, saying there was a man “as naked as a jaybird” along the road.

Police say 31-year-old Rudy Eugene attacked 65-year-old Ronald Poppo minutes later.

During the attack Eugene stripped off Poppo’s clothes and chewed most of his face off before he was shot and killed by a police officer.

Police have not released a motive for the attack.

Poppo remains hospitalized in Miami.
