OCALA, Fla. (AP) _ Police in north Florida are urging people to be cautious if they get a phone call from someone claiming to be a relative in trouble.
Authorities say a 72-year-old Ocala woman was scammed out of more than $9,905 this week after a caller identifying himself as her son said he needed money to pay off football-related gambling debts.
The Ocala Star-Banner (http://bit.ly/yYmMEf ) reports the woman withdrew cash from the bank.
Police say he asked the woman to leave the money in her unlocked car and wait inside a restaurant. After waiting a while, the woman called her son. He told her he was at work and had not made a phone call asking for money.
When she returned to her car, the money was gone and she notified police.
