$437 Million OK’d For TIA Project

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority has approved the largest contract – $437.4 million – in the history of Tampa International Airport.

The board that oversees the airport agreed to pay the Texas firm Austin Commercial the rest of the money needed to help finish construction of TIA’s $943 million expansion and upgrade plan.

The new automated people mover and the new rental car facility are the two biggest components of the construction project and the first major additions to the airport since the terminal was built in 1971.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that the airport is also putting all its concessions out for re-bid.
