17 Migrants Come Ashore Near Ocean Ridge

The Palm Beach Post reports that 17 migrants, fifteen adults and two infants — who appear to be from Haiti — are in federal custody today after they illegally came ashore in Ocean Ridge, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s spokesman.

Around 5:45 a.m. sheriff’s deputies were called to 1919 Ocean Ave. in response to undocumented migrants coming ashore.

The sheriff’s helicopter spotted an abandoned boat and the pilot saw footprints leading away from the vessel.

Sheriff’s deputies and Delray Beach police have taken all 17 migrants — 15 adults and two infants — into custody. It wasn’t immediately clear where they were when found.

U.S. Border Patrol is now leading the investigation, sheriff’s spokesman Eric Davis said.
