UCF sorority, fraternity face alcohol sanctions

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The University of Central Florida is cracking down on a fraternity and sorority after an 18-year-old student died after attending a party.

The university recently sent letters to the Sigma Chi fraternity and Delta Delta Delta sorority, accusing them of disruptive conduct and alcohol-related misconduct. The university alleges the Greek organizations did nothing to prevent underage drinking during an Aug. 24 party.

Ann Hefferin died Aug. 25, shortly after attending a Sigma Chi party with a fellow Delta Delta Delta member.

The Orlando Sentinel (http://thesent.nl/oHkDw3 ) reports the Hefferin’s roommates told police she had been drinking before they found her unresponsive in their campus apartment.

The cause of death has not yet been determined. But university officials say alcohol was being served at the party, which was a violation of rules.
