Tampa Woman Tries to Run Over Cops

A 26-year-old Tampa woman is accused of trying to strike two officers with her vehicle outside a nightclub early Thursday, police said.

It happened about 3 a.m. outside Club 1 South, 1833 1st Ave.

Police were directing traffic outside the club when they saw several people surrounding a black Chevy. They approached the vehicle and saw Lattangela Denise Scott inside and told her to exit, police said.

While looking at the officers, she put the car in reverse and turned the wheel, forcing Sgt. Joseph Collins and Officer William Markowitz to jump out of the way, police said.

She then drove off.

She was eventually stopped at Central Avenue and 32nd Street, police said.

In a statement to police, she said she thought the officers were club security. She said she wasn’t trying to kill anyone.

Scott faces two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and reckless driving. She was being held at the Pinellas County Jail on Thursday morning on $20,250 bail.
