Suspect Leaps to Death Eluding Police

LAUDERHILL, Fla. (AP) — A South Florida suspect who jumped into a canal trying to elude police has died.

Lauderhill Police tried to arrest 23-year-old Winston Gaskins after an alleged drug sale Saturday. Gaskins jumped into a nearby canal, swam to the middle and stopped. Officers helped him out of the water and tried to revive him. He died at the hospital.

Authorities said he had an outstanding warrant for cocaine possession.
