MIAMI (AP) — The search is on for a prisoner who escaped from a Miami-Dade police vehicle near the Metro Justice Building.
Authorities say 26-year-old John Paul Garrido managed to free himself from plastic handcuffs and opened the car door Tuesday morning. He was on his way to be processed after his latest arrest on criminal mischief charges.
The Miami Herald reports a witness told police he saw Garrido hiding in a garbage can before jumping into a brown pickup truck that drove by. He said the pickup then sped away.
Police say he was on probation for a previous strong-arm robbery conviction.
