Occupy Tampa to Protest at USF

Student groups at the University of South Florida in Tampa are planning their own Occupy protest on campus.

The local chapter of the Students for a Democratic Society and other groups plan a Thursday “teach-in” and demonstration targeting budget cuts for education, tuition hikes and attacks on what they call “the 99 percent” of campus.

The group says it aims to organize students, faculty and staff to build a movement on campus that can propose alternatives to cuts dictated by state officials and the university administration.

The demonstration is styled after protests in New York and other cities. A group of protesters has occupied a downtown Tampa park for several weeks.

The protest starts on the USF campus starts at noon.
