Defense Rests in Millionaire’s Murder Trial

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The defense has rested in the trial of a central Florida developer who is accused of fatally shooting his wife.

The Orlando Sentinel reports the defense did not call real estate tycoon Bob Ward to the stand Thursday. The state plans to call two rebuttal witnesses.

The newspaper reports the judge and jury were going over jury instructions Thursday morning.

Ward is accused of fatally shooting his wife in September 2009, days before she was to give a deposition in a lawsuit alleging that he blew millions of dollars on big houses and expensive cars while his business failed. He has been charged with second-degree murder. Defense attorneys say Ward’s wife was suicidal, and he was trying to stop her from killing herself.
