The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a home invasion and shooting that happened just before 4 a.m. at a home in the 5800 block of 7th Street East in Bradenton.
Deputies said Ira Waiters, 27 and Ja Carl Williams, 22 were in the home when two people forced their way inside.
Waiters was shot by one of the men, who then fled the scene. Waiters was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest. Williams was not injured.
Deputies were in the area when they heard gunshots. They responded to the scene and found Waiters outside the home.
No suspects have been identified.
Deputies have remained at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
