2nd Lawsuit Filed in Thanksgiving Shooting Case

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A man whose pregnant wife was killed in a 2009 Thanksgiving rampage has filed a lawsuit against the suspect’s parents, the second such lawsuit filed in a week.

Patrick Knight, whose wife Lisa died in the shootout, filed the complaint Thursday against her parents Michael and Carole Merhige, his former in-laws. The Merhiges’ son Paul awaits trial in the killings but has pleaded not guilty.

Knight himself spent three months in a coma after being shot in the attack.

Like a lawsuit filed last week by three other survivors of the shooting, Knight claims the Merhiges knew of their son’s “dangerous propensities” and failed to protect guests from him.

A telephone message left at the Merhiges’ home wasn’t immediately returned. It wasn’t clear if they had an attorney.
