Lawless is Flawless in My Life is Murder debuting on Acorn TV Monday. We talk with her about her new hit show – Stream On with Jim Williams

Lucy Lawless first captured fans in the United States with the 1990’s mega-hit Xena Warrior Princess and continued to be a contestant on the small screen in shows like Parks and Recreation, plus the Starz series Spartacus and Ash vs Evil where she was reunited with former Xena favorite Bruce Campbell.

However Lawless has found a new program that really showcases her acting chops better than any program she has been in since Xena. On Monday Acorn will debut a sure-fire hit from Australia called My Life is Murder and it fresh, fun and one of the best new shows to hit TV in 2019.

Lawless plays the smart and sexy Alexa Crowe, a very clever private investigator and ex-homicide detective who seems to remain someone that her old boss Detective Inspector Keiran Hussy (Bernard Curry, Home and Away, Wentworth), always calls on to solve the toughest cases.

Acorn fans will recognize Lawless’s assistant and sometime partner in crime-solving the spunky Madison Feliciano who was on season one of The Heart Guys another Australian hit.

On this week’s edition of the podcast Stream On with Jim Williams, I spoke to Lawless about her new show and how Melbourne is a big part of My Life is Murder. Here are a few highlights from our conversation from this week’s Stream On with Jim Williams available at Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

On her new show My Life is Murder:

“I wanted to create something that is fun and gives the viewers an hour of entertainment which is escapism. We have a great cast with creative scripts that makes it fun to come to work every day.”

On her cast members:

Wow, do we have a fun cast. Let’s start with my assistant Ebony Vagulans who plays my trusted but at times quirky assistant and partner in solving crime Madison Feliciano, is a treat to work with. Then there is, of course, there is Bernie (Bernard Curry) who has been one of the most respected in Australia who plays my former boss Detective Inspector Keiran Hussy who loves to enlists Alexa on his trickiest cases.”

On Melbourne playing a role in the show:

“It is a world-class city with so many wonderful things to do that we have used to help tell our stories. You have a super, diverse music and arts scene that we love and frankly, everyone is going to want to visit us here.”

On having My Life is Murder on Acorn TV in streaming in the United States:

“I think that the great thing about Acorn is that you can sample good television from the U.K., Canada, New Zealand and of course Australia. We are seeing people in the U.S.  are very accepting shows like ours and others and the accents are not a problem. Acorn proves that good television no matter where it comes from.”
