‘True Detective’ Season Finale Receives Mixed Reviews

The HBO show ‘True Detective’ finished up its first season Sunday night and fans solved the mystery of the ‘Yellow King’ or did they?

The show has received mixed reviews from fans on social media for not wrapping up the season with a nice bow. There are several main plot threats not finished or unexplained. What ‘True Detective’ did do was challenge the viewer to connect the dots and find the hidden meaning in the symbolism in the film making. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson put on an acting clinic for eight weeks and show writer Nic Pizzolatto made us remember why we loved ‘Lost.’ The last 10-minutes of episode eight explains why not all the questions are answered. One person could look at the show’s lack of answers as lazy writing to where the next interprets it as great writing.

Did the ‘True Detective’ leave us with a lot of unanswered question? YES!

Did fans over-hype the series trying to figure out the mystery? NO!

The first season of ‘True Detective’ introduced a great set of characters with infinite possibilities. What made this show a fun ride was looking for every detail in every scene. ‘True Detective’ made the viewer become the detective. The ‘Yellow King’ is a great villain with hopefully more stories to come. The show is an anthology which means there will be all new characters for season two, but could the ‘Yellow King’ be the main plot thread that connects them all.

“Once there was only dark. If you ask me, the light’s winning,” Rust Cohle.
