Review: Walking Dead #115 “Bring On The Drama”

Walking Dead #115
Written by Robert Kirkman.
Illustrated by Charlie Adlard, Cliff Rathburn.

Mature Readers

ALL-OUT WAR BEGINS! The biggest storyline in WALKING DEAD history – just in time to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the series! It’s Rick versus Negan with a little help from everyone else!

Was I disappointed that issue 115 of Walking Dead wasn’t action-packed, YES!

With that said Kirkman takes us to a new level in the series with this issue, Walking Dead becomes a war drama. Rick intensely battles for 22-pages about the war that he is about to start with Neagan. Rick looks tired and broken and that is a credit to Charlie Adlard’s artwork. The dynamic between Laurie continues to grow which will set the stage for epic emotional exchange in future issues as the war rages on.

This issue is another setup to ‘ALL OUT WAR,’ as was the issue. Some my find this style of storytelling boring and wait for the graphic novel. The apprehension cannot be much greater and issue 116 needs to be here today, not in five-weeks!

The storytelling style that Kirkman uses is why he is a great comic book writer. He understands the concept of 22-pages and always leaves you with a gasp on the last page.

Kirkman has done an excellent job raising the stakes over 115 issues. I don’t want to spoil anything for new readers but the series is intense and continues to build of a simple premise, “how normal people react in an insane world.” Some people become insane, some survive and many more die. This is the drama that Kirkman creates with no superpowers.

Is it his best issue, no, but it’s an exciting twist when the series changes directions and becomes a war drama.

Story: 8/10 • Artwork: 8/10 • Overall 8/10
