LegoLand Expands

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (AP) _ Less than a year after opening, Legoland Florida is expanding.

The theme park will announce plans for an expansion at a press conference Thursday.

A video file sent to journalists Tuesday strongly suggests the 2012 expansion will have a “Star Wars” theme.

The Lakeland Ledger (http://bit.ly/Q2vEot ) has reported on Legoland’s application for an expansion called Pirate Shores in 2013.

Legoland officials have not commented on those plans.

Legoland, built on the 150-acre site of the former Cypress Gardens, is based on the building-block toys and has rides and attractions geared toward ages 2 to 12.

Legoland Florida is the second park in the U.S. built by the Lego Group of Denmark and operated by Merlin Entertainments Group in Great Britain.
