Food Talk: Karen Page Talks Vegetarian Cookbook

Missed part of the show? Here’s a recap of Food Talk from Saturday, January 24, 2015.

Kim talked to Karen Paige, author of The Vegetarian Flavor Bible.

After losing members of her family to cancer, the author—an established culinary professional—was shocked to learn that the number-one cause of death in America is nutritionally controllable diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. A lifelong omnivore who grew up eating meat “two and often three times a day,” Page was motivated by nutrition studies to experiment with vegetarianism. She eventually eliminated meat from her diet, losing digestive aches and pains and more than twenty pounds in the process, while gaining new vitality and even joy—and she pours her newfound passion into this book.

We also talked to Alison Ashton, who started out covering travel, health, fashion and shelter for a national wire service and magazines. Then, in 2002, everything shifted.

Finally, we talked about the different kind of oysters with Yona Puri of Tamarina Restaurants.

Food Talk with Kim Bailey airs every Saturday from 2-3 p.m. ET on AM 820 News in Tampa.
