Florida Tourism Interested In Realty TV

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Florida tourism is getting into reality TV.

The chief marketing officer for Visit Florida said Thursday that the state’s quasi-public tourism marketing agency is supporting three new reality TV shows with three cable networks.

The shows on the Golf Channel, Telemundo and BET will feature Florida settings and start running next year.

Visit Florida’s Paul Phipps says the agency’s commitment to the Golf Channel show is under $1 million, and allocations for the other two shows are each in the half-million dollar range.

It’s the first time Visit Florida is getting into the reality TV business, although the agency has supported other television ventures, including a Florida cooking show with Emeril Lasgasse that will have a second season.

Florida taxpayers support a third of Visit Florida’s $162 million budget.
