Elizabeth Smart Details Kidnapping In Memoir

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Elizabeth Smart is out with a book that details her nine months of captivity by a homeless street preacher.

The Associated Press obtained a copy in advance of the 308-page book, “My Story,” from St. Martin’s Press. It hits bookstores Monday.

The book chronicles the almost daily abuse that Smart — then a 14-year-old girl — says she received from Brian David Mitchell, who is serving two life sentences in the federal prison system for kidnapping and sexual abuse.

The book also reveals several times that Smart says she watched a possible rescue slip away.

The now 25-year-old Smart tells The Associated Press she’s living a happy married life in Park City. She’s finishing a music degree at Brigham Young University and traveling for speeches and advocacy work.
