A Look At Which Actors And Actresses Will Likely Win Big At The Oscars

Which Actors And Actresses Will Likely Win At Sunday’s Oscars Based On Earlier Award Shows

Voting for this year’s Academy Awards ended Tuesday and now the public is just one day away from finding out who will come out on top Sunday.

While there are many different categories, all of which are equally exciting, perhaps the most talked about has been Best Actor and Best Actress. Let’s take a look into which actors and actresses are likely to win big at the Oscars this weekend.

Actor In A Leading Role

  • Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea
  • Andrew Garfield, Hacksaw Ridge
  • Ryan Gosling, La La Land
  • Viggo Mortensen, Captain Fantastic
  • Denzel Washington, Fences

This category has been a major toss up. Casey Affleck was highly praised for his outstanding role he played in “Manchester by the Sea” where he showed what he is made of. Affleck also won almost every early award, which are good indicators of who will win at the Oscars. However, Affleck was beat by Denzel Washington at the SAG Awards, which has helped predict this category for many years.

Winner: Denzel Washington.

Actor In A Supporting Role

  • Mahershala Ali, Moonlight
  • Jeff Bridges, Hell or High Water
  • Lucas Hedges, Manchester by the Sea
  • Dev Patel, Lion
  • Michael Shannon, Nocturnal Animals

Mahershala Ali will likely win this category after winning the Critics’ Choice and SAG awards. Though he was only in a third of “Moonlight” his emotional role as a Miami drug dealer set the mood for the whole film.

Winner: Mahershala Ali

Actress In A Leading Role

  • Isabelle Huppert, Elle
  • Ruth Negga, Loving
  • Natalie Portman, Jackie
  • Emma Stone, La La Land
  • Meryl Streep, Florence Foster Jenkins

Just as Best Actor had some debate, so does Best Actress. It seems this category is a no brainer. Emma Stone gave a spectacular performance in the historic “La La Land” with great singing, dancing and acting. But it’s hard to overlook Isabelle Huppert’s acting in “Elle.” Huppert is one of the all-time greatest screen actresses and is very deserving of this award as well.

Actress In A Supporting Role

  • Viola Davis, Fences
  • Naomie Harris, Moonlight
  • Nicole Kidman, Lion
  • Octavia Spencer, Hidden Figures
  • Michelle Williams, Manchester by the Sea

Viola Davis seems to have sealed this category with her performance in “Fences.” Davis has been nominated three times in the past nine years and this would be her first win, so it only seems fitting that she is due for this Oscar. She’s also won every major award this season so this category is probably hers to take. It’s never easy playing a role alongside Denzel Washington, but Davis gave one of her best performances ever.
