Your Wake Up Call Rundown, June 17

By Jenna Laine
Host, Your Wake Up Call

Good morning! We’re happy you could join us this morning for another jam-packed show.

First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers go out to those who were affected by the two tornadoes that touched down in Nebraska yesterday, killing a five-year-old and injuring 19 others.

We’ve continued to discuss the crisis in Iraq. Nearly 300 U.S. troops and a have been sent over to secure U.S. assets, along with an aircraft carrier for possible air attacks as Sunni fighters move towards Baghdad. At 7:10, ABC News White House correspondent Ann Compton joins us with the latest on President Obama weighing the U.S.’s options.

Today is VA Intake Day for Congressman David Jolly. At 7:21, Congressman Jolly joins us to talk about the ongoing issues with the VA at the local level. You can meet with him from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at his Seminole Office to discuss your experiences with the VA (good or bad):

St. Petersburg Seminole Campus – 9210 113th Street. No appointments necessary. You can also reach out to Congressman Jolly on Twitter @USRepDavidJolly

At 7:55, ABC News correspondent Tom Rivers joins us for more insight into Iraq, with the Iraqi government bolstering Baghdad’s defenses yesterday and the U.S. considering talks with Iran on how best to control the situation. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said he would consider co-operation if the U.S. took action.

In World Cup action, Team USA defeated Ghana 2-1. We talk about the game and the improbable win, as well as look ahead to Portugal.

If you’ve ever had something defamatory posted about you on an internet website, you’ll want to hear this…an appeals court ruled that a former Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader should never have been allowed to sue an internet gossip site over online posts about her sexual history. ABC News correspondent Scott Goldberg joins us at 8:55 to talk about how this strengthens the broad immunities enjoyed by internet websites to post whatever they want.

You can listen to us on AM 820 News (Tampa Bay) and AM 1190 News (Orlando). You can also listen to us online.
