President Gets Visit From Congressional Hispanic Caucus
President Obama is of course keeping his eye on the situation between Israel and Palestine, where there could be some fresh developments by morning. In the White House on Wednesday, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus pays a visit, and they may take the opportunity to vent some frustrations over the lack of movement regarding immigration reform. Was it that long ago when so many were gun-ho that something was going to get done on that front?…. Oh well. And now of course you have the current crisis as well. At 7:10, ABC News correspondent Ann Compton will join us.
Brief Lull in Gaza Ends with Rocket Fire Killing First Israeli in Conflict
Egypt’s proposal for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas collapsed Tuesday only a few hours after Israelis had accepted it, as Palestinian militants in Gaza launched a barrage of rockets and Israel resumed its airstrikes. The Israeli authorities said a Palestinian attack caused the first Israeli fatality in the eight-day-old military confrontation, in which Israeli bombings have killed nearly 200 Palestinians. Israel has warned 100,000 residents of certain parts of Gaza to leave town, increasing speculation that a major action will be taken by morning, U.S. time. At 7:35, ABC News correspondent Aaron Katersky will join us.
Google’s Eyewear Might Have a Real Purpose
If you’ve shied away from “Google Glass” because of the price tag, or because those tech-shields look too weird – or because you’re worried you’ll get punched in the face by people who angrily assume you’re recording them – this might sound like a better use of technology. Google announced its teaming up with Novartis to make smart contact lenses. These aren’t for surfing the web or taking videos – yet. They’re designed to detect blood sugar levels by measuring glucose in tears, giving diabetics an alternative to pricking fingers. At 8:10, Scott Goldberg will join us.
Texas Lawmakers Propose Immigration Fix
In a rare show of bipartisanship, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) have introduced legislation which, they hope, is a start toward easing the illegal immigration crisis along the U.S./Mexico border. The Helping Unaccompanied Minors and Alleviating National Emergency (HUMANE) Act would speed the process of sending young illegal immigrants back to their home countries. However, some major potholes have emerged. The proposal is already feeling pushback from some lawmakers, including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Meanwhile, House Speaker Boehner is expected to propose his own plan by the end of the week. At 8:35 ABC News correspondent Jim Ryan will join the program.
