ISIS LEADER CALLS ON MUSLIMS TO HELP BUILD ISLAMIC STATE

The leader of the extremist group ISIS, that’s swept over much of northern Syria and Iraq, has called on Muslims to come to the territory his group has seized to help build an Islamic state. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi says in an audiotape, ‘Muslims, rush to your state.’ He makes a special call to scholars, judges, doctors, engineers and people with military and administrative expertise to join. Tom Rivers will join us.

PRESIDENT OBAMA CALLS ON REPUBLICANS TO HAVE SOME “ECONOMIC PATRIOTISM”

President Obama calls for “economic patriotism” from Congress but knows he won’t get it. The President told his Cabinet to proceed with executive actions and said to Congress “So, sue me.” All indications are that Congress will oblige.

CIVIL RIGHTS ACT ANNIVERSARY IS TODAY

John Ford will be talking to us about the anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, its implications then and where we are today. He also has some personal experiences he can share. For the last 45 years, John has devoted himself to studying African American history. He is a historian at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum in Pittsburgh where he currently oversees the “From Slave to Soldier” exhibit. He also served as the director in the education division and curator for Pennsylvania’s first Underground Railroad exhibit at the Heinz History Center. He’s won numerous awards and conducted numerous lectures at a number of academic institutions for his work in African American studies.

TEXAS OFFICIALS IN THE MARKET FOR A SHIP TO SINK

Wanted: One steel-hulled ship, at least 200 feet long. Limited seaworthiness okay. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department plans to sink a ship in the Gulf of Mexico to create an artificial reef for sea life and an interesting point of exploration for divers. The four-million-dollar project is funded partly by the money collected from BP after the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster off the Louisiana coast. Jim Ryan has the details. Jim Ryan will join us.

NADINE SMITH, CEO EQUALITY FLORIDA

Today is a big day for Nadine Smith, CEO of Equality Florida, and for same-sex couples throughout the state. This afternoon, her organization and sex same-sex couples will ask the court to strike down the state’s marriage ban and order that same-sex couples be allowed to marry. Nadine Smith will join us.
