Wrong Way Driver Dies On I-275

Wrong way crash

Update: According to police, through continued investigation, it has been determined that Leveille was initially traveling southbound on I-275 and near Busch Boulevard for unknown reasons he made a U-Turn on the interstate and traveled north until colliding with the box truck.

One person was killed in a wrong way crash on I-275 earlier this morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at about 2:35 AM, the driver of a 1993 Honda Civic was traveling northbound in the southbound center lane of I-275 just north of Bearss Avenue. A single-unit unloaded rental truck was traveling southbound in the center southbound lane of I-275.

The two vehicles collided head-on just north of Bearss Avenue. Post-impact, the truck and car traveled southeast approximately 500 feet and came to final rest in the inside emergency lane and inside travel lane. The wrong way driver sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene of the crash.

The crash closed both directions of I-275 until 5:30 AM when the northbound lanes re-opened. At 6:30 AM, all southbound lanes re-opened as well. At this time, the investigation remains on-going and it has not been determined where the Honda Civic driver entered the wrong way on I-275.
