Brandon: Pedestrian Struck By Several Cars

Just after 4:30 am this morning, 57-year-old Ronald J. Sandalic was wearing dark clothing while attempting to walk south across Bloomingdale Avenue at Maze Lane in Brandon, according to police.

At the same time, 19-year-old Madison A. Dvorak was driving a 2005 Ford Focus eastbound on Bloomingdale Avenue when her vehicle struck Sandalic sending him approximately 70 feet before he landed in the roadway. Dvorak stopped her vehicle to render aid and immediately dialed 9-1-1.

Almost immediately following the initial impact, Sandalic was struck again while lying in the roadway by a 2005 Toyota Tacoma driven by 57-year-old Ricky Polk who stopped and unsuccessfully tried to wave cars around Sandalic.

Sandalic was then struck a third time by a 2005 Crown Victoria driven by 58-year-old John Gallerger who also stopped and waited for deputies.

Two additional vehicles ran over Sandalic’s deceased body and did not stop. Witnesses described one vehicle as a Chevy S-10 pickup truck and the other as a full size pickup truck.

Given the condition of Sandalic’s body at the time the last two vehicles struck him, these drivers would not be facing a criminal charges, however they should contact the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Section for documentation in the crash report.

The drivers of the last two vehicles that struck Sandalic and did not stop can contact HCSO Traffic Homicide detectives at 813-247-8200.

No charges are expected at this time, the investigation continues.
