UF Student Injured When Chemistry Lab Explodes

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A student received minor injuries during a chemistry lab explosion inside the University of Florida’s Sisler Hall.

The Orlando Sentinel reports the building will be closed for at least a day following the Wednesday afternoon explosion.

University police say the student was taken to Shands Hospital for evaluation. The building was evacuated after the 5:45 p.m. explosion.

The newspaper reports a hazardous-materials unit from Gainesville Fire Rescue is investigating to find out what kind of chemicals were involved. Officials say the chemicals were toxic.

No further details were immediately available.

    This author of this article needs to get his/her facts straight. The injuries were not “minor”, as other articles have noted. The student that was hurt had finger tips torn off and glass embedded in his chest and abdomen!
