Taxpayers Taking Heat For Sunshine-Law Breach
When the Orange County Commission approved the current year's budget in September, the official document touted some of its spending on local projects, including $300,000 to complete a new Holden Heights Community Center. Even in a $3.3 billion budget, $300,000 is real money, and can do plenty of good.
Yet this week came the news that the county had spent nearly that much public money, or perhaps more, to clean up the legal mess created when leaders deleted text messages from their cellphones after a public meeting.
It's an expensive lesson. Too bad taxpayers are the ones who got stuck with the bill.
