Tampa Bay Teen Pleads No Contest to Bomb Plot
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ A Tampa Bay area teen has pleaded no contest to plotting to blow up his high school last year.
Jared Cano pleaded no contest Tuesday to charges of threatening to discharge a destructive device and attempting to discharge a destructive device with intention to harm.
His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 5.
The 18-year-old Cano was arrested in August 2011 after police say they found bomb-making materials and a “manifesto” outlining Cano’s plans in his home.
Authorities say Cano was planning to bomb Freedom High School.
The intent was to cause more casualties than the 1999 Columbine High School massacre, which resulted in 13 deaths before the two shooters killed themselves.
