Missed part of the show? Here’s a rewind of the program on April 12, 2014.
Lots of legislation is being voted on in Tallahassee… things that might impact YOU… so this week on Talk Back Florida we jumped in to some of the hot issues!
Tampa Bay Times Tallahassee Bureau Chief, Steve Bousquet gave us the very latest update on Friday’s votes telling us about the $25 auto tag rebate, immigration reform, gun laws changes; including stand your ground, warning shots and concealed carry permits in emergency situations. Bousquet has been covering the Tallahassee beat for 20 years and gives a great inside perspective to the inner-workings of the session. Pinellas County Sheriff, Bob Gualtieri and the state Sheriffs Association are extremely concerned about the concealed carry with out a permit law and the Sheriff joined the show calling the bill “insane” “crazy” & “absurd”. Travis Arnold, an instructor at “Equip 2 Conceal” joined the conversation to also speak for the second amendment but like the Sheriff has safety concerns with this proposed legislation. We just celebrated “equal pay day” (April 8th) and author and historian Doris Weatherford joined to discuss the “equal rights for men & women” legislation pending in Tallahassee, as well as the history for that proposal, the Lilly Ledbetter Law and told listeners that JFK was actually the very first President to introduce equal pay legislation to Congress back in 1963. Weatherford specializes in writing about women’s history and has authored a dozen books. More info at members.authorsguild.net/dweatherford
But it wasn’t a women who was selected to replace late night talk show host David Letterman. Creative Loafing’s Arts & Entertainment Editor, Julie Garisto joined us to talk about the late night shake-up (David Letterman announcing that he’s retiring), Stephen Colbert named to replace Letterman. We talk about the reaction and people who might have been in the running.
