Reed Announces Review of Atlanta's Storm Response
ATLANTA (AP) Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed outlined steps he plans to take to improve the city's emergency preparedness after a winter storm brought the metro Atlanta region to a halt.
Reed said Friday that he will conduct a comprehensive review of the city's response to Tuesday's snowfall to see what worked and what didn't. He will convene a working group to come up with best practices for emergency preparedness.
The mayor said he will recruit and hire an emergency management executive to handle emergencies in the city.
He said he plans to ask the city council to spend more on pretreatment and deicing capabilities.
Reed and Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal have endured harsh criticism in the days since two inches or less of snow halted traffic on interstates, hobbling the Atlanta region.
