WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says he is convening a conference on mental illness to bring the issue “out of the shadows.”
Obama is speaking Monday at the opening of the day-long White House conference. The event is part of Obama’s response to last year’s shooting massacre at a Connecticut elementary school.
The president emphasized that most people with mental health problems are not violent. But he says that untreated mental illness can lead to larger tragedies.
“We want to let people living with mental health challenges know that they are not alone.”—President Obama #MentalHealthMatters
