Seven people were killed and at least 28 were injured yesterday when a suspected gas explosion tore through a building in Manhattan’s East Harlem neighborhood, collapsing at least part of the structure. As of Wednesday more than a dozen people were still unaccounted for. Residents reported hearing a large explosion in an apartment building around 9 a.m. One resident who lived next door to the collapsed building reported smelling a strong odor of gas Tuesday night. A gas leak was called in to Con Ed and the explosion occurred before team arrived.
