Woman Hit By Truck On Pinellas Trail

A woman is in the hospital this morning due to an unaware driver.

At 6:47 am on Tuesday, a 2001 Ford, being driven by 18 year-old Caroline Condon was westbound on 34th Avenue Northeast and had stopped for the westbound red light. Two pedestrians, 65 year-old Connie Clark and 67 year-old Elaine Davis were southbound on the Pinellas Trail on the east side of 1st Street.

The pedestrians were approaching the intersection of 34th Avenue having a green light and a pedestrian cross signal with several seconds remaining. As the pedestrians stepped off the curb within the marked crosswalk, the Ford began making a right turn. The driver of the Ford, turned to the left to look for northbound traffic, never saw the pedestrians step off the curb.

The right front of the Ford struck Clark, knocking her to the ground. Davis bumped the right front fender of the Ford and was uninjured. Upon hitting the ground, Clark struck her head on the pavement, causing a critical head injury.

Clark was transported to Bayfront Health St Pete in life threatening condition. Drugs and alcohol are not expected to be a factor. Next of kin, Clark’s son, has been notified.

The investigation is continuing.
