Winter Storm Takes Aim At East, Closes Schools

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Some schools are closing in parts of Ohio, the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast as another winter storm bears down on the eastern U.S. a day after temperatures soared into the 50s.

The National Weather Service says the storm could bring up to 8 inches of snow Monday to Philadelphia and New York. Temperatures are returning to the 30s a day after the first outside, cold-weather Super Bowl kicked off in northern New Jersey in 49-degree weather.

The snowstorm was making it tough for some people to get out of town on Monday. The flight-tracking website FlightAware reports that about 1,000 flights were canceled nationwide in cities including Philadelphia, Newark, N.J., and New York.

Schools closed in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania ahead of the storm.
