ISRAEL BOMBS SYRIAN TARGETS
Iraqi military officials say Sunni militants have captured two border crossings, one with Jordan and another with Syria, as they press on with their offensive in one of Iraq’s most restive regions. And if the region wasn’t hot enough, Israel says it has carried out airstrikes on nine targets inside Syria, including a regional command center, in response to a deadly cross-border attack that killed an Israeli teenager a day earlier. JOHN KERRY VISITS MIDDLE EAST
Secy of State John Kerry is in the Middle East, looking to get consensus as to what to do about the situation in Iraq, which appears to include some growing sentiment that a change in leadership may be in order. Meanwhile, stateside, President Obama is at the White House holding a “Working Families Summit.” As you can surmise, if Dad runs a giant hedge fund, that working family is not the focus. This is more geared towards families with stagnate earnings and employment issues, with a political eye on the November elections and the Middle Class vote. At 7:10, ABC News correspondent Ann Compton will join us.
CONFERENCE OF MAYORS ADDRESSES WAGE INEQUALITY ISSUE
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who came into office six months ago promising to take on economic inequality in the nation’s largest city, is now enlisting other big-city mayors to join in the fight. De Blasio and the mayor of Sacramento, Kevin Johnson, announced the creation of a year-long task force to look at ways city government can leverage its purse strings and programs to advance the growing disparity between the haves and the have nots. At 7:35, Scott Goldberg will join us to discuss.
MASS GRAVE OF IMMIGRANTS FOUND IN SOUTH TEXAS CEMETARY
Over the weekend it was reported that volunteer researchers uncovered mass graves at a cemetery in the South Texas town of Falfurrias, that they believe contain the bodies of immigrants who died crossing the U.S. illegally. The discovery came in the last two weeks, as a group led by anthropologists from Baylor and the University of Indianapolis worked as part of a multi-year effort to identify immigrants who have died in the area near the U.S.-Mexico border. At 8:10, ABC News correspondent Jim Ryan joins us to discuss.
