On Wednesday, House Speaker John Boehner (Ohio) said he plans on suing President Obama for abusing executive authority. ABC News White House correspondent Ann Compton joins us at 7:10 to give us the White House’s perspective on that, along with issues in Ukraine, unaccompanied children crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally and the situation with Ukraine.
President Obama has also asked for $500 million from Congress to provide training and assistance to moderate Syrian rebels to help combat ISIS. Also, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki has welcomed the airstrikes sent over from Syrian president Bashar al-Assad to combat ISIS. Chris and I talk about the U.S.’s involvement in those affairs.
At 7:35, ABC News correspondent Scott Goldberg joins us to talk about the U.S.’s 1-0 loss to Germany yesterday in the World Cup. The team still advances to the ‘knockout round’ in the tournament, thanks to their play in previous matches.
You’ve probably heard about Bloomberg’s big-soda ban — it’s officially dead. Yesterday, New York’s highest court refused to reinstate the city’s controversial limit on large sodas. It’s a victory for the soda industry but it has public health advocates up in arms. We’ll talk to ABC News correspondent Aaron Katersky about it at 8:10.
Fourth of July is coming up, and for many of our listeners, it means taking a trip. AAA’s Jessica Brady joins us at 8:21 for some helpful information about travel insurance.
A major ban was handed down yesterday for Uruguayan soccer player Louis Suarez after he bit another player. That ban includes sitting out nine games for his country and he will miss club play for four months. ABC News correspondent Tom Rivers joins us at 8:35 to talk about it.
