New Gas Skimmer Found At Another Bay Area Gas Station
This week North Port Police found a skimmer at a gas station in the city. This is not the first time authorities have located skimmers at this gas station before.
NPPD working for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services were checking fuel pumps in the North Port area when they located the skimmer in the Mobile Station on Toledo Boulevard.
New Law To Protect Against Gas Skimmers
On October 1st a new law went into effect that requires self-service fuel dispensers to have certain security measures to prevent theft of consumer information, which includes security tape and approved locks.
The law increases penalties on those with stolen credit card information. Penalties on gas station owners have also increased. If an owner fails to meet proper measure to protect their customers, the state can shut down the gas pump.
