On June 5, 2014 at approximately 10:51 a.m. a traffic crash occurred on Memorial Highway south of Bay Pointe Drive in District III. A 1995 Ford Explorer was traveling north on Memorial Highway when for unknown reasons the driver lost control, left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The driver exited the vehicle and then collapsed. CPR was initiated and he was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
As soon as next of kin has been notified, we will release the driver’s name.
At this time, only the outside northbound lane of Memorial Highway is closed; however TECO heavy crane crew is enroute and may need to close additional lanes to replace the pole.
