Hillsborough County Teacher Faces Trial Today For Sex With Student

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla.- A former Hillsborough County teacher is heading to court Monday on trial for having sex with one of her students during school.

Megan Connors, 31, of Brandon is accused of having sex “multiple times” with a 15-year-old boy. Connors was a math teacher at Turkey Creek Middle School in Plant City. The initial arrest took place in February 2015 by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office after Connor had been accused of having a romantic and sexual relationship with the 15-year-old boy between January and February 2015.

The relationship progressed over time, according to deputies, from kissing to Connors letting the victim touch her inappropriately underneath her clothing. It progressed further to Connor having sex multiple times with the student while at school, during school hours.

Deputies say Connors even pulled the student from other classes to have sex at school. It is reported that on one occasion Connors and the victim left school in her car and she drove them to the victim’s house where they had sex in his bedroom.

Connors had begun teaching at Turkey Creek Middle in August 2014, according to a school district spokesman, Stephen Hegarty. The school district pulled Connors from her classroom about a week after school officials began to get suspicious that there might be inappropriate behavior taking place.

No other students seemed to be involved in this case, according to investigators. The school district had asked Connors to resign or she would be fired. Since she was a new teacher the action did not have to be approved by the school board. The district reported her actions to the state and her teaching certificate could be terminated.

Today Connors will face seven counts of sexual battery and two counts of lewd or lascivious conduct. Her trial began Monday at 8:30 a.m. More updates are to come.
