Police Searching For Card Skimmer Suspect

Hillsborough County police say between July 3, 2014 and July 7, 2014, the unknown suspect shown above attached and removed skimming devices from automated teller machines at three different SunTrust Bank locations. The locations are 9601 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. / Tampa, FL; 3511 Bell Shoals Rd. / Valrico, FL; and 403 W. Brandon Blvd. / Brandon, FL.

Evidence located at the scene indicated the suspect attached the skimming equipment to the ATM card readers using green tape and white two-sided tape.

At the Tampa location, a white male is seen on surveillance video installing a long, thin silver box with electronic equipment inside.

The silver box was left by the suspect, attached to the front underside of the ATM, above the keypad area. It contained electronics and a camera to record the customer’s fingers as they entered their personal identification number on the keypad.

A broken green and silver card reader face plate was located in a nearby flower bed.

If you think you may have been affected by the skimmer, check your bank account. If something is wrong, you’re encouraged to contact your bank immediately. Remember, it’s always ideal to check your bank account daily.

Anyone with any information reference the suspect is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at 247-8200 or anyone with any information regarding the identity and whereabouts of this suspect and who wants to be eligible for a cash reward is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477), report anonymously online at www.crimestopperstb.com or text “CSTB plus your tip” to C-R-I-M-E-S (274637).
