Tampa police detectives are investigating an early morning shooting at the Smoke Shop at 1412 West Waters Avenue. Police say it happened around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning.
A store employee, Shane Hiser of Tampa, 24, was staying at the business overnight as a result of a recent burglary. The shooting victim and burglary suspect, Dillon Trujillo of Tampa, 22, smashed the front window and broke into the business.
Tampa Police say Hiser confronted the suspect and there was a confrontation which resulted in Hiser shooting the burglary suspect. Trujillo was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Trujillo had a warrant for his arrest and additional burglary charges are pending, according to police.
The shooting is under investigation.
