4-Year-Old Boy Falls Out of Car, Dies

Tampa police received a call around 9:45 pm regarding a boy found in the road at 109th and Florida Avenue.

A witness called 911 after seeing a child fall out of the back passenger door of the green SUV. 4-year-old Marterrance Albury landed on his head and was then run over by the back wheels of the vehicle. He was critically injured and later died at St. Joseph’s hospital from his injuries.

Detectives are still working to determine if the child fell out of the car or if he was pushed. Approximately 20-30 minutes after the incident, the victim’s 17-year-old brother walked up to an officer at the scene and told him that he couldn’t find his 4-year-old brother. The victim rolled out of the vehicle in front of his apartment complex that faces Florida Avenue. Police are still searching for the green Expedition and urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-873-tip or the Tampa Police Department at 813 231-6130.

The victim’s mother came home at 4:00 a.m. and told police that she went out with a friend and left her 4-year-old with his older brother. Upon learning of her son’s death, she became hysterical and wanted to commit suicide.

Once officers were able to calm her down, she was transported to the hospital where she was baker acted. Detectives are still interviewing the 17-year-old son.

The investigation is ongoing.
