I-4 Closes For Hours Due To Gas Leak

A crash on I-4 closed multiple lanes of traffic until 7:30 am due to a fuel spill from a semi truck.

The Florida Highway Patrol says it happened just after 5:30 am on Tuesday. Guillermo Espinosa, 23, of Tampa was traveling east on I-4 just past 22nd Street in the center outside lane behind a single unit box truck. Espinosa attempted to change lanes and ended up between a semi and a tractor trailer.

As he was changing lanes, he lost control of his 1996 Honda and the car hit the saddle tank of the semi. Once it hit the tank, the Honda rotated and was hit by another car.

Espinosa suffered minor injuries, while no other drivers were hurt. Alcohol is not suspected to play a role in this crash. He was cited for careless driving.
