3 Arrested In East Tampa Homicide Case

Three homicide suspects are behind bars thanks to tips from the community.

Tampa Police detectives have charged three suspects in an east Tampa homicide case. The Tampa Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force reviewed extensive surveillance to arrest all three suspects at seperate loactions within a 48-hour time frame.

Those suspects are Jason Newson, 30, of Tampa, charged with 2nd degree murder; Tyrell Mingo, 21, of Tampa, charged with 2nd degree murder; Carlton “Cooda” Reed, 52, of Tampa, charged with 2nd degree murder.

Newson, Tyrell Mingo and Donnell Mingo were arrested for the beat down death of Carlton Reed. Last March, Tampa Police officers found Reed lying on his side in the middle of the street with severe injuries to his upper body. He was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

During the investigation, Tampa Police Homicide detectives urged witnesses to come forward with information that would help identify the suspects responsible for Reed’s death. Detectives identified all three suspects based on these witness statements and evidence at the scene.

On June 10, a warrant was issued for the trio’s arrest. Shortly after, the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force started receiving anonymous tips about the suspects’ whereabouts. The task force along with members of TPD’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit conducted extensive surveillance that led to the arrest of all three suspects within a 48-hour time period.

Newson was located and arrested at his home without incident on June 12, 2014.

Donnell Mingo and his cousin Tyrell were located and arrested the following day at two separate locations.
