More Than 140K Ballots In Mail In Hillsborough

hillsborough

Hillsborough County, FL – The Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections delivered more than 140,000 Vote By Mail ballots to domestic voters today. This is more than double the number of Vote By Mail ballots that were sent out in the first domestic mail delivery for the August 2012 Primary.

“We actively encourage Vote By Mail because it’s such a convenient way to vote. Voters can take time at home to research candidates before marking their ballot, and they don’t have to worry about something else coming up to keep them from voting on election day,” said Craig Latimer, Supervisor of Elections.

Voters have until 5 p.m. August 20 to request that a Vote By Mail ballot be sent to them, so the Supervisor of Elections will continue to assemble and mail ballots for several more weeks. Voters can also visit any of the four Supervisor of Elections offices and have a Vote By Mail ballot printed for them while they’re at the office.

“The 2012 Presidential Election showed that Vote By Mail is clearly becoming more popular among our voters. One-third voted by mail–nearly 170,000 voters,” said Latimer.

In Hillsborough County, Vote By Mail ballots arrive with a postage-paid return envelope, so once voters have marked their ballot and signed the envelope, they can just drop the sealed envelope in the mail. Completed Vote By Mail ballots must be received by the Supervisor of Elections office no later than 7 p.m. August 26. The ballots can also be returned in person to any of the Supervisor of Elections offices or Early Vote sites. Completed Vote By Mail ballots cannot be returned at polling places on Election Day. Fifteen Early Vote sites will be open in Hillsborough County Aug. 14 – 24 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. New legislation states that Vote By Mail voting and ballot pick up on Election Day is only permitted in case of emergency.
