Tampa Tops “Most Vulnerable For Hurricane” List

Hurricane season is officially underway and forecasters expect it to be a busy one.

The weather channel ranks Tampa bay number one on a new list of the “most vulnerable and overdue” hurricane cities in the country.

The last major hurricane to hit the Tampa Bay area was in 1921.

Since then the Bay Area’s population has exploded by 1,300 percent, with more than 4 million people in the Tampa metropolitan area, which includes St. Petersburg, Clearwater and Sarasota.

Because of that, the evacuation time in the event of an approaching category five hurricane is predicted to be 68 hours.
